回家走走 ~ Sibu

Sibu is also 1 of the places K1 will try to go yearly if time permits to visit relatives (1 of Dad’s wishes for us to keep in contact with them).

People heard of Cebu, Philippines but seldom hear of Sibu, Sarawak so they thought K1 go to Cebu… Last year Sep, K1, mum, Mr & Mrs T took Air Asia direct flights from JB – Sibu. As usual, Macik always ask us to go Sibu during Hari Raya but this year Hari Raya, mum can’t take leave so dunno when we go. Time flies, nephews & nieces have grown taller, the youngest nephew (Han) is in Primary 1 this year. Han has a collection of cars & Ninja turtles.

Jie jie & kor kor brought us to Sarikei to try the yummy Foochow food such as prawns noodles in coconuts. They know K1 miss eating midin so there’re 2 plates of midin (stir-fry midin & Thai style midin). Yummy Thai style midin… They brought mum to 中华小学, the place that we found Uncle who knew our long-lost relatives.

Nepal

An opportunity came for K1 to do volunteer work and off K1 head to Nepal with Mr G, LP jie, Ah Yi, Yi Zhang, Aunt L, A & T. It’s the 1st time K1 gave a miss watching National Day Parade last year Aug.

Upon arrival @ Kathmandu airport, heard chirping sounds & saw cartons of baby chicks (a rare sight to be seen at airports). PIC AD welcomed us and off we head to Tibet Guest House for briefing and rest. Yummy food such as chapati, curry, prata nearby guest house.

7 Aug, we leave for Gyalthum after breakfast. We arrived at Two riverside resort after 4-5 hours drive through bumpy, muddy & uneven roads (roller coaster ride). Two riverside resort is not a luxury resort & only provides basic accommodation.

8 Aug, villagers arrived at 1st base camp (Gyalthum) to receive tin roofs that keep their families warm during winter. After lunch, we went for short hike nearby to prepare for few hours hike up mountain few days later.

9 Aug, we leave for Thankune Bhanjyang (2nd base camp) and check in to Lama guesthouse after 4-5 hours ride uphill bumpy, muddy & uneven roads. Lama guesthouse is a hostel style with shared toilets. It’s a challenge as we took turns to shower and abit inconvenient as most of the locals took shelter for a night during raining cats and dogs.

10 Aug, villagers arrived at Lama Guesthouse to receive tin roofs. Heard some villagers walked 1 day just to come & collect tin roofs. Personally, K1 likes the 2nd base camp cuz the weather is cold and the villagers are more friendly and happy with smiles 🙂

Salute to the villagers, the tin roofs are heavy, they roll & tie tin roofs then carry on their backs to walk home.

11 Aug, 3+ hours trekking from Lama guesthouse to Dorje Lakpa Lodge at Chisapani, Sindhupalchowk.
~ Thank you porters for your hard work
~ spot kids build sand castle

Most Guest Houses in Nepal did not have electricity in afternoon and electricity back around 7pm. If there is blackout, lifts not working & there’re candles in every rooms.

Salute & Thank You to the drivers who drove us safely especially the bumpy, muddy & uneven roads uphill & downhill in the jeeps… If the drivers drove a wrong move, our jeeps could be falling down the mountains.

Made new friends and keep in touch with 1 of the trekking guides, Ang. Another volunteer trip is in the midst of plan for this year end Nov – beginning Dec to Himalayas mountain areas. Would like to go but it’s peak season & not able to take leave unless a miracle happens for K1 to go (fingers crossed…)

K1 is fortunate to born in an average family filled with warmth. K1 feel that one should go for overseas volunteer trip at least once as it changes one’s mindset or perception. No one knows what happen tomorrow… Treasure your time spent with loved ones, friends & colleagues…

Taiwan (1 of my fave holidays)

Last year, K1 & K2 made a stopover at Taipei to meet up with mum, Ah Yi, Yi Zhang & Uncle D. K1 booked 包车 to explore 十分 / 九份 / 中社花海 / Taiwan Times Village / Sun Moon Lake / Strawberry picking / 新社古堡 / 東東芋圓.

Taichung bnb is within walking distance to Feng Jia night market. Bnb has 4 rooms with double bed in each room, 2 bathrooms, 1 kitchen, 1 living room and different designs of chandeliers in each room as well as in the living room.

Previous year, K1 also booked 包车 to explore Yilan and stayed Hello Kitty themed rooms at Yilan minsu. Taiwan is 1 of K1’s fave holidays & K1 had been travelling to Taiwan yearly but different cities since year 2014.

This year, mum worries for her health & K1 decides to bring her jalan jalan to cheer her up. Thinking where to go as Scoot having promo. Mum said before she wants to experience sit Biz class. Thankfully Scoot promo airfare allows us to fly economy to Taipei & biz class back from Kaohsiung. So happy it’s a good deal ($300++ per pax). Shopping at Taipei, sightsee at ???, yummy night market food at Kaohsiung. Will book 包车 to explore a new city, make a guess which city we’re going to in May. Clue: It’s 1 of the stations of High Speed Rail…

Globetrotter

Dad,

I’m back to work after 3 mths unpaid leave. Thank you very much Ms Teh for her understanding & approval of unpaid leave. Took panadol for past 2 nights & still not ok so today rest @ home. Now feeling better & write to u.

What I am busy with for past 3 mths???

  • Travel from west to east for HIP of toilets, new gates & doors. In addition, reno of kitchen as well as change of new LED lights for house.
  • Thinking to do volunteer work & there’s an opportunity so off I head to Nepal
  • Team bonding with colleagues @ Batam
  • 回家走走 to visit relatives @ Sibu, Sarawak
  • Holiday & meet up with A during his off days in UK, Paris & Germany

So K2 say K1 is a globetrotter 🙂

Gonna be busy with work & unpacking of stuff into kitchen & hall cabinets but will find time to share my free & easy trip in Europe. Most of our accommodations booked thru Airbnb except for 1 night that we stayed @ hotel (Agoda promo).

Tata…

Dad,

Few mths later, there is Home Improvement Programme (HIP) – reno of toilets in selected blocks by HDB. Mum is thinking of reno kitchen as well & off we head to the fair @ Expo. At first, we are just going there to see the types of designs for kitchen until we walk into Image Creative Design (ICD) booth. His name is Z & he’s chatting with mum to find out more details of mum’s ideal kitchen design. K1 is looking at the newspaper cutting & awards that ICD put at the booth. Z is now mum’s interior designer & he tries his best to accommodate to mum’s request.

The Chinese word tattoo ‘禅’ caught K1 eye so K1 ask Z what’s the meaning. His reply is his name in Chinese. There are 3 occasions that Z don’t like – CNY, his bday & X’mas. Hopefully, Z will slowly start to enjoy CNY & X’mas as it’s a yearly festive season that family, relatives & friends catch up with each other.

K1 found another person who has few similarities (such as the drawings) with Dad & he is Z. Z tend to be a happy go lucky guy & he enjoys what he is doing (happy for him that his hard work being recognized by owners). We’re of same age but Z put his career first as he is a family man who is helping his mum to take care of family. Perhaps K1 grew up in an environment filled with warmth & happiness that lead K1 prefer to have work-life balance.

One cannot choose the environment that one grew up. However, one can choose to have the mindset to be happy everyday regardless of any bad or sad events that happen. Thank you for letting K1 to meet Z as K1 see Dad in Z 🙂

3D2N Toronto

It’s New Year Day… We woke up early morning to catch Air Canada flights from Quebec city – Toronto (transit @ Ottawa). The taxis from Quebec city – airport run on fixed rates & not by taxi meter. It’s too early in the morning, K1 is not hungry yet so share a cup of hot choco with K2. Rjjj, moon jie & K2 had their b’fast at Tim Hortons, Quebec city airport while K1 had b’fast at Tim Hortons, Ottawa airport.

Toronto’s bnb is located about 5 minutes walk from the Bloor subway line (Dufferin Station). We stayed at 1st & basement level of bnb while the host & family stayed at 2nd level of bnb. There are kitchen, sofa bed in living room, backyard at 1st level while a bedroom, a bathroom, washing machine & dryer at basement level. Bnb host makes us feel at home especially with K1 name besides door bell as well as she bought a choco cake for us to eat (Thank you…). K2 likes this bnb very much as there is a wide variety of shows such as Apple TV, Netflix, sports channels etc.

The next day, Rjjj & moon jie went shopping while K1 & K2 went to Casa Loma & Royal Ontario Museum (ROM). The staff at Dufferin station recommended us to buy a family day pass as it’s cheaper than 1 way metro fare.

It’s free at leisure till midnight flight departure so we had 3 course lunch at 360 Rest, CN Tower as well as a view of Toronto from CN Tower. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience & we are full after our lunch except for K2 who did not find his lunch filling. After that, K1 & K2 went window shopping & K2 asked K1 if there is anything K1 want to buy. K1 concern that baggage allowance might exceed if K1 buy more stuff cuz K2 already bought many stuff such as help his friends & K1 to buy Abercrombie clothes.

Baby Yujia

Dad,

K1 is reading Sunday Times… Baby Yujia & her mum appear on newspaper as part of ‘Raising hopes via crowdfunding’. Google baby Yujia facebook & found this link (https://give.asia/movement/help_for_baby_yujia), pls click the link for more info & help baby Yujia if possible. No matter how much the amount you donated, it’s the thought that counts…

Parents hope that their child will be born healthy but one can’t choose & need time to slowly accept that their child is born with rare illness. In the beginning, they might be thinking what they have done wrong & why is their child born with rare illness. However, this could be a challenge or an obstacle that they need to encounter & overcome. Encouragement & emotional support from family & friends are important so that they know they are not fighting alone. In addition, they become strong & resilient so as to look after their child as well as in search of treatment hoping that their child could recover.

Jia you baby Yujia & her family 🙂
