An opportunity came for K1 to do volunteer work and off K1 head to Nepal with Mr G, LP jie, Ah Yi, Yi Zhang, Aunt L, A & T. It’s the 1st time K1 gave a miss watching National Day Parade last year Aug.

Upon arrival @ Kathmandu airport, heard chirping sounds & saw cartons of baby chicks (a rare sight to be seen at airports). PIC AD welcomed us and off we head to Tibet Guest House for briefing and rest. Yummy food such as chapati, curry, prata nearby guest house.

7 Aug, we leave for Gyalthum after breakfast. We arrived at Two riverside resort after 4-5 hours drive through bumpy, muddy & uneven roads (roller coaster ride). Two riverside resort is not a luxury resort & only provides basic accommodation.

8 Aug, villagers arrived at 1st base camp (Gyalthum) to receive tin roofs that keep their families warm during winter. After lunch, we went for short hike nearby to prepare for few hours hike up mountain few days later.

9 Aug, we leave for Thankune Bhanjyang (2nd base camp) and check in to Lama guesthouse after 4-5 hours ride uphill bumpy, muddy & uneven roads. Lama guesthouse is a hostel style with shared toilets. It’s a challenge as we took turns to shower and abit inconvenient as most of the locals took shelter for a night during raining cats and dogs.

10 Aug, villagers arrived at Lama Guesthouse to receive tin roofs. Heard some villagers walked 1 day just to come & collect tin roofs. Personally, K1 likes the 2nd base camp cuz the weather is cold and the villagers are more friendly and happy with smiles 🙂

Salute to the villagers, the tin roofs are heavy, they roll & tie tin roofs then carry on their backs to walk home.

11 Aug, 3+ hours trekking from Lama guesthouse to Dorje Lakpa Lodge at Chisapani, Sindhupalchowk.
~ Thank you porters for your hard work
~ spot kids build sand castle
~ spot slanted lodges affected by year 2015 earthquake
~ most of them kena bitten by leeches, luckily leech dun like me haha…

Most Guest Houses in Nepal did not have electricity in afternoon and electricity back around 7pm. If there is blackout, lifts not working & there’re candles in every rooms.

Salute & Thank You to the drivers who drove us safely especially the bumpy, muddy & uneven roads uphill & downhill in the jeeps… If the drivers drove a wrong move, our jeeps could be falling down the mountains.

Made new friends and keep in touch with 1 of the trekking guides, Ang. Another volunteer trip is in the midst of plan for this year end Nov – beginning Dec to Himalayas mountain areas. Would like to go but it’s peak season & not able to take leave unless a miracle happens for K1 to go (fingers crossed…)

K1 is fortunate to born in an average family filled with warmth. K1 feel that one should go for overseas volunteer trip at least once as it changes one’s mindset or perception. No one knows what happen tomorrow… Treasure your time spent with loved ones, friends & colleagues…

June – The month of memories…

Dad, it’s the end of the month in June and July is coming. You’ve left us for 2 years but we still miss you. The mth of June is filled with happy and sad memories – Father’s Day, u left us the next day after u were discharged from SGH, if u’re still around (today is your bday).

Colleague asked ‘your dad so gd meh?’ Yes, Dad dote on me, he’s our handy man who took care of family, gave me his full support in whatever I do so long as I’m happy with what I’m doing, fetch me home after work especially when I’m unwell from office, return transfer for mum from home – office, he seldom travel with us & his excuse is no one help to water his plants, he is brave and has the courage to tell us his wishes although he don’t know when he’s going to leave us, and lots more…

Recently, colleagues’ father and grandma were unwell and hospitalised. Their feelings, tiredness, emotional support from relatives to carry on with daily lives were what we experienced 2 years ago. It’s a phase that everyone need to go through and to be stronger as well as to treasure the time spent with loved ones.

Dad, perhaps I miss u so much… I’m thankful and happy to get to know Kor who has the same English name as you. Both of u born in same Zodiac year but different ages. You like gardening while he likes terrarium as a hobby. Sometimes, I see him as though I see you except both have different face, hairstyle, height. Friend ask is Kor old? He’s not old, it’s just coincidence that both of u have few similarities.

Tml is your 忌日 so we’re going to Punggol Temple. Good night…
